I use the word quite precisely, seeing as the Italian famiglia has lost the meaning that the Maori still conveys and that the English family doesn't quite carry.

it is fascinating and telling that english doesn't have comparable word, and that "extended family" doesn't really cut it.

the lack of the concept is, imho, behind the increasing atomisation of anglophonic societies.

and no, i can't justify that fully.
